A new year.
A new photo project.
This project is so huge.
Two thousand and eighteen HUGE!
Have the most amazing year everyone
Enjoy this adventure photo challenge with me!
1/2018: First and for most, the first thing I need to do is get rid of this filthy moustache. A couple of months in the making initially for Movember but good to see my upper lip again. #menshealth
2-3/2018: A beautiful high tide to start off the year. Lots of fish swimming for Izzy to bark at. Just need someone to come and clean up all the debris.
6-11/2018: a cool spot for an impromtu lunch break. The joys of community physio life!
16-17/2018: Nadia Lim's AMAZING homemade teriyaki chicken with red cabage, pak choy and apple salad. So healthy. So yum. Easy weekday cooking #goodfood
18/2018:
I see these 'Dragon Boats' paddling past all the time near home.
I do wonder where in Australia YDNE is. must be some remote rural town with a small population and a big lake or river for Dragon Boating!!
19/2018:
It was an extraordinary low tide this evening. the lowest I've seen in a very long time. Just 0.12m
What happens is the tide get so low it reaches 0.0m? does the water start to evaporate?
A beautiful boat ready for a paddle...just need some water!!!
20/2018: On the look out for diner!
21-24/2018: What a stunning night to leave Sydney for all those passengers on this gigantic ship!. Traffic came to a stand still in Circular Quay tonight as the tugs and pilots boats successfully manoeuvred this beauty out of the harbour.
25/2018:
Turning Sydney upside down.
What a stunning night to be anchored in Athol Bay on Sydney Harbour with a glass of Peterson's Sparkling Shiraz and a beautiful sunset behind the city!
One of my favourite spots on Sydney Harbour to just while away the afternoon or evening
26-28/2018: So good having the Canon out again and playing with different shutter speeds and movements and lights.
31/2018: This photo just made my day and put a big smile on my face, while waiting for coffee. This beautiful lady walking down to the water [maybe with her granddaughter] and off for a swim with her bright red swim cap. No way she'll get lost out there. So awesome
Susan, hopefully this will be me and my friend, Susan, in 50 years - Go Ocean Beasts!!!
As a physiotherapist I just love seeing people of all shapes, sizes, ages and fitness levels, getting out there and doing some kind of physical activity. I always think of Reece Witherspoon in Legally Blonde when she says " Exercise gives you endorphins, endorphins make you happy..." And then I add to this quote "Happy people stay healthy and enjoy life". So get out there and enjoy this beautiful city we live in and don't use you age, fitness, health, or interest as an excuse!
32/2108: A refreshing way to cope with Sydney's ridiculous heat wave!
[Diving into the Harbour is another good coping strategy]
Stay safe out there everyone!
33/2018: Mosman is blocking my view!
34/2018: Loving the suns reflection ont eh water tonight as the sun slowly drops behind Mosman.
35-36/2018:
MIRA
A beautiful shallow low tide this morning allowed me rare opportunity to walk around our boat in shoulder deep water and take a few happy snaps. This was our home the last two days
37/2018: Testing out my new climbing shoes at 9 Degrees in Rydalmere. You are meant to have numb toes right? SO much fun and a great challenge. one day I'll be a pro [ish]
Photo Credit: @megdarmody Check out her amazing Foral work for sale on her Instagram page.
38-42/2018: Early morning adventures with Izzy in the pouring rain. Izzy was drenched by the time we got home and loved having a rough and tumble getting her dry. Don't think she was too happy to then be left out on the balcony by herself for the day.
So much fun walking in the rain and capturing the cool effects the rain, puddles and weather provide. Especially love the reflections of the ANZAC bridge. [Definitely my most favourite bridge in Sydney].
43/2018: Struggling in the heat, rain and humidity. When will it cool down for me to show off my beauty to the world and stop being ugly?
44/2018: Looking after myself in the heat, rain and humidity. When will it cool down for me to open up and see the beautiful world?
50-51/2018: I love playing with shutter speeds and zooms, creating cool, unusual, different, unique effects. Someone asked me over Christmas why I do pictures like this one on the left. My answer was simply to be different and make the viewer think twice about the image.
Sydney Harbour Bridge [The second coolest bridge in Sydney] from Jones Bay.
PS: Check out Exposed for more crazy pictures like this.
57-68/2018:
Bright and early Saturday morning I ventured out before the heat and before my inter-sate weekend adventure for a 14km training run [8 weeks and counting til the big day!.] with the intent to beat the HEAT. Massive fail. it was so hot by the time I got home at 7.30am, I was a lather if stinky sweat.
But it was a great run through Barangaroo and Circular quay. So many things that sometimes you simply don't see. Did you know that the tiles on the Sydney Opera House are actually Square! But with the way they [and the grout] are assembled they appear to form six sided arrow shapes!!

70-74/2018:
What a fun, quick epic adventure I've just had to Adelaide. A very cool part of the country and I got to catch up with my amazing friend Bridget, eat some delicious food, drink tea and play lots of fun games. Thanks Bridge for teaching me Yahtzee! So much fun, definitely a keeper in the games department.
I always love our little catch ups, some are quick some link this weekend, not so quick. But always relaxing, easy going and calm. The kettle is never far away. Thanks for your awesome friendship and I am so excited for yours and Chris' next adventure. Can't wait to meet Baby Carew!
Massive Hug. XO JR
PS: Yes, we used all of these tea post and all of these mugs!
75/2018: Love playing with light and reflextions. This was in Adelaide CBD, beautiful clouds and crazy green reflections. #justlookup
76/2018:
Found this bike at Menzies Reserve just next to the Drummoyne Ferry Wharf. It reads [1 week in the park, 2 weeks in the river, now it's back. Know someone who can stop this cycle? Obike is a no-show. Council says it can't.
There are so many bikes cluttering up Sydney's streets, I wonder what the usage rate is verse the time spent dormant on the street???
77-80/2018: [Lunchtime] a time to blob, chat, laugh, eat or do some exercises. a relaxing lunchtime walk around Putney Pond.
81-82/2018: [History Lesson]
1799 Captian John Macarthur buys Thomas Jones' 55 acre farm for £10 worth of rum and subsequently names it Pyrmont. [THAT'S ABOUT $1075 IN TODAY'S CURRENCY] You can hardly even get a weeks rent for that price in Pyrmont these days. What a Bargain!!
So cool that Pyrmont's history is on display on the Mount Street Walk steps for all to learn and see.
The picture below stats that the population in Pyrmont in 1981 was 1590 people. Now the 100 hectares of Pyrmont is the most populated suburb in Australia [since 2011] with a population of 12,813 [2016 census] and is filled with water front properties, walkways, lots of green space [for puppies and kids to run around in], shopping, dining and the famous Star Casino and Lyric Theatre [soon to be hosting the hilarious Book of Morman].
What a difference 37 years makes!! What will Pyrmont be in 2055 in another 37 years?
83/2018: The things you find when you run around Pyrmont and stop for a few arm exercises. I have run past this so many times over the years, but never stopped to capture it. Not really sure what it is or what it stands for but it was just beautiful against the clear blue sky. Sometimes when you frame a picture you look at it and just can't get it right, cant get it to look the way your eyes see it. [Change your position, get low or high or change your angle to capture it differently] For this picture I initially took it standing, then crouching, then I ended up lying flat on my back. It started off with the city in the background, then just grass, then ended up with just sky. Be creative, don't just settle with your first shot [be patient]
84-87/2018: What a relaxing way to end the day, Rod, Izzy and my Canon hanging out of the board walk in Jackson's Landing. So good to get back to some night photography and getting a little creative and learning a bit more about getting jsut the right exposure. What a beautiful harbour we live in. Hope the Explorer didn't keep you up all night, Balmain!
88-91/2018: Today i got the opportunity to escape the hospital and escape the community and hang out at Sargood on Collaroy to learn form the Making Stride Spinal Rehab program. The program was awesome to see first hang and some great ideas to take back to the unit but the best part of the day was exploring with my camera! Collaroy, a beautiful [feet burning] beach!
92/2018: [Feeling HOT HOT HOT]. And dirty. The beach between collaroy and Long Reef was filthy dirty today and filled with kelp and so hot my feet are still burning!. I was planning on a beach run but i struggled to stand there just to take this photo let alone running on it.
93/2018: Made a new friend yesterday while out on a home visit with a client. [Izzy was very jealous!
95-96/2018: I'm bailing on Australia for Oz day! so Happy Oz day everyone. Have a grand day. Enjoy hte heat and the sand and the water and the barbie!!!
97/2018: NEW ZEALAND HERE I COME!!! Homeward bound [ well, almost, that's actually Christchurch and I;m heading to Wanaka [one of my most favourite places in NZ] to hang out with family and do a little camping out at Glendhu Bay. So excited!!!
98-103/2018: From getting on to the place to the stunning [wet] take off to the amazing view of Sydney as we ventured across the Tasman. Air NZ you are amazing and loved the views over Cardrona ski fields too [is that my brother Dallas I see biking down the hill?] Let's do this NZ. Kiwi adventure here we go!
104/2018:
What an amazing arrival into Queenstown [ZQN]
"Welcome O Visitors From Afar"
These steel warriors were erected in 2008 by local artist Mark Hill and stand 4.2m tall outside of Queenstown Airport. So good to be home. Click here to see more work from Mark Hill
105/2018:
One of the amazing views in New Zealand. After flying with AirNZ to Queenstown [you can just make out the air strip in the middle of the pic, next to the lake] through the Kawara Gorge and Gibbston Valley it was was time to drive over the Crown Range [the highest public road in NZ] the stunning Wanaka. Family time.
106-111/2018: WELCOME TO GLENDHU BAY.
This is the most extraordinary bay in New Zealand. [I'm pretty biased when I say that] as my family have been camping here every summer for 5 generations [and hopefully many more to come] when my great grandfather began camping in this remote, beautiful bay around 1940. This place is so relaxing, peaceful and just beautiful. On the shores of Lake Wanaka just 11km west of the Wanaka township, there is no better way to start the year than a week [gla]camping here.
Thanks in particular to Grandad and Mum for introducing me to and sharing this gorgeous slice of paradise with me the last 30 years.
Next time you are in NZ [if you haven't already] make sure you drive take the stunning drive from Wanaka and check out this place your self.
112-123/2018: Love these little mumchkins! NEICE AND NEPHEW SLASH UNCLE JASE TIME!!
These are my beautiful, funny, cheeky, [grumpy], energetic, cute and hilarious nieces and nephews.
So much fun hanging out with these guys and being in the top 3 of the "Coolest Uncle" list!. haha.. So cool hearing some of the awesome stuff these kids say and being able to wind them up before handing them back to their parents! They are all growing up way too fast so pretty special for us to have some chill out hang time.
124-126/2018: Kayak [palindrome]: noun: a canoe of a type originally used by Inuit, made of light frame with a watertight covering with a small hole on top to sit in. verb: to travel in or use a kayak. Thanks Mal and Hayden for the use of your kayaks. So much fun hanging wth mum kayaking from Glendhu Bay to the Poplars [well almost]. The most overcast and colder day of the week, a mere 28˚C. haha.
LIST OF FIRSTS #1 Kayaked on Lake Wanaka
127-131: BOAT ADVENTURES!
It's been a while since our family has had boats at Glendhu Bay. Not we have two! Thanks Dallas and Mal and Hayden for investing in these awesome toys. [Maybe will have a jetski next year to add to the mix!] Lake Wanaka is such a beautiful, clear, refreshing lake and so much fun to ski in. Especially when I bailed off the wakeboard, to just float and bob in the water waiting for the boat to come and get me [the most amazing feeling].
LIST OF FIRSTS #2: Wake boarded
LIST OF FIRST#3: Drove a jet boat
132-133/2018:
Mum in her happy place!
This is definitely one of Mum's most favouritest places in New Zealand. So cool hanging out with her here this last week. We might of stressed you and you might feel you need another holiday but so glad you have shared your love of this place with us kids. Hope you get your break by yourself in a few weeks time and really ge to unwind with this paradise
134/2018: [STOP] and just hang out and take in this stunning view. If I was a videographer I would have done a panoramic pan shot for you to show all the kids jumping off the jetty to the left making a massive splash, laughing, having a great time in the hot January summer. [And] if photos had sensation you'd be able to smell the freshness of the lake and hear to crashing of waves and feel the sharp stones under your feet. #lovethisplace. Lake Wanaka you are just an amazing adventure for your senses!.
135-136/2018: Pretty sweet places to just relax and unwind and read and escape to another world. Love holidays. I set myself a new years resolution: Read [a novel] every day. so far so good!
137-146/2018: CLOUDS FOR CIARA: When Wanaka is having it's hottest January since 1902 it's pretty exciting to see the clouds [for some shade]. And what beautiful clouds they were. So may differenc colours and effects. My friend Ciara [from Ireland] would be in paradise here, she wouldn't be able to put her camera down!
147-148/2018: Early morning strolls along the lake front. #peaceful
My happy place [well one of them anyway!]
149/2018: A handful. the first time in 2 years all five of us have been together in the one town. We might live in 2 countries, 3 time zones, 5 different towns/cities but may not see each other too often, but it was pretty cool hanging out for a few days. Just chill time. Lots of laughter. Lot of memories. Lots of farts. Lots of happiness! When will we do this again???
150/2018: Love these little munchkins! So much fun and energy [especially when their aunty and uncles wind them up!!!] Kathleen [7], George [8], Charlotte [2], Oliver [ 10] and Pippa [4]. Such cool kids!
